Each Morgan Silver Dollar Coin available through BGASC is encapsulated in protective PCGS plastic slabs. Coins with a Mint State 64 grade exhibit average mint luster considering their age. They may display minor groupings of contact marks, one or two moderate marks, and occasional small hairlines. These coins are encased in the distinctive Rattler Holder, one of PCGS’s original, larger plastic slabs designed for certified coins.

Obverse

The obverse side of the Morgan Silver Dollar Coin boasts a left-facing portrait of Liberty, intricately designed by George T. Morgan. Liberty wears a Phrygian cap, coronet crown, and laurel wreath.

Reverse

Flipping the coin reveals the reverse side, featuring the powerful heraldic eagle design, another creation by George T. Morgan. The eagle stands tall, wings spread wide, clutching both arrows and an olive branch symbolizing the dual nature of conflict and peace.

History

The production of Morgan Silver Dollars primarily occurred between 1878 and 1904, with consistent minting each year within this timeframe. The Philadelphia Mint and San Francisco Mint were key contributors, with the New Orleans Mint striking coins every year except for 1878. Additionally, Carson City minted these coins during specific periods: from 1878 to 1885 and 1889 to 1893.
