Obverse

This design, known as the Small Head Indian Princess, showcases a proportionally smaller bust of Liberty in comparison to the total field of the coin, distinguishing it from the previous Coronet and subsequent Large Head Indian Princess designs.
Reverse
The reverse visuals on the Pre-33 $1 Indian Gold Coin also include the Type 2 design, used from 1854 to 1889. This redesigned version by Longacre features a larger, more diverse wreath, representing the agriculture of both the North and the South. The wreath includes depictions of cotton, corn, tobacco, and wheat.
History
The Pre-33 $1 Indian Gold Coin holds an intriguing history with three different obverse designs and two distinct reverse designs. James B. Longacre’s initial obverse design was influenced by Christian Gobrecht’s Liberty Coronet on the US Eagles, as well as his own design for the Double Eagle. In 1854, Longacre introduced a captivating depiction of Liberty as an Indian Princess, wearing a feathered headdress.
